Alexander "Butch" Dewey Hamlett, age 83 of Gladys, passed away on November 23, 2025 in Forest, Virginia. He was the son of the late Jesse Edward Hamlett and Ellie Nora Nash Hamlett Greenwell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in by his wife, Joyce Mitchell Hamlett; his son Dewey Wayne Hamlett; stepfather, B. W. Greenwell; five brothers, Bobby, Eddie, and David Hamlett, and Gene and John Greenwell; seven sisters, Erma Moon, Ethel Baker, Viola Dagenhart, Alice Beliew, Hennie Donaldson, Betty Allen and Sharon Eisenhardt; six nephews and three nieces.

He leaves to cherish his memories his daughter, Christina Walden (Brian) of Gladys, son, Anthony "Tony" Hamlett of Lynchburg; two sisters, Joyce Austin of Gladys, and Florence English of Spring, Texas; five grandchildren, Emma and Ethan Walden of Gladys, Stephen Hamlett (Megan) of Concord, Gregory Hamlett (Jenna) of Concord and John Sims (Nicole) of Colorado; six great grandchildren, Brentley, Mattox, Johnson, Reagan, Trace and Colton Hamlett,  and Liam Sims; daughter-in-law, Helen Hamlett of Hurt, VA; two sisters-in-law, Rachel Hamlett, and June Mosebrook;  his beloved dog and companion, Holly; and honorary brother and sister, Eddie and Linda Walden; numerous other family and friends.
