Obituary

Alice  "Noby" Crews Jennings  Eubanks, age 99 passed away on January 18, 2023 at Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Sewell, New Jersey. She was born on June 13, 1923 to the late William Coleman Crews and Sarah Spraggins Crews.

Noby had many names and titles which included: Mom-Mom, Bum-Bum, The Other Mom-Mom, Aunt Noby, but her favorite title was Momma. She was also known by her many students as their teacher.

At an early age, she professed her faith and joined the New Shiloh Baptist Church. It was during this time, at the age of six that she began playing piano for the church.

She attended elementary school in Philadelphia briefly and then returned to Halifax County where she skipped the fourth grade and eventually graduated high school at age 16.  Upon graduating high school, she attended Saint Paul's College in Lawrenceville, Virginia, where she graduated at age 18. Later, she became a non-traditional student and completed her Bachelor of Arts degree from Lynchburg College.

Mrs. Eubanks taught elementary school for forty-two years. During this time, she served as teacher and principal at West Elementary School. When the schools in the county were consolidated, she was transferred to Sydnor Jennings Elementary in Nathalie, Virginia.  In her role as a teacher, Mrs. Eubanks displayed her love of teaching and sharing her knowledge with others. She had a generous spirit, pleasant and loving personality, as she was loved by many.

Her Christian life was as beautiful as the flowers that she loved so much, especially roses. She received great joy from coordinating church rallies and anniversaries but particularly loved creating and designing homecoming  programs and church bulletins.  She had a beautiful spirit for composing and writing with a poetic flair. Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew and loved her. She was the long-standing organist and pianist for New Shiloh Baptist Church. In addition, she also filled the role on occasions for St. Michael Baptist Church, Ellis Creek, and Sunflower Baptist Church.

She lived a wonderful life, full of amazing experiences.  Some of those experiences  included meeting Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., his father, and son.   She made friends with two gospel recording singers, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Mae Patterson, who were frequent guests to her home. Mrs. Eubanks took a cross-country car trip to California with her best friend and fellow teacher, Miss Nettie West. She would organize bus trips to Washington, DC, New York City, Charlottesville, VA and other historic places to ensure that others had opportunities to enjoy these historical experiences. She also appeared on NBC Television (Home Town Heroes) where she played the piano during the show.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Deacon Mose Jennings and later her second husband, Deacon William H. Eubanks, Jr., and her siblings Willie (Eleazer) Wynne, Hampton Crews, Stimpson Crews, Robert Crews, Clara Jennings, and Nancy Reed.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by her children and love ones: Mose Alphonso Jennings (Inez) of Richmond, CA, Almarie Jones (Robert) of Somerdale, New Jersey, and Robert Jennings, (DeLonn) of Christiana, PA; eight grandchildren, Darren (Rhonda), Kesha (Terry), Kendrick (Danyell), Derek, Karina (Donovan), Keian, Brittney (Brian),  and Robert, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Naimah (Keith), Dylan, Camryn, Kardonn, Sophia, Aarmon, Aniyah, Aaron, Adrian, Myles, Addy and Hayes; and a host of devoted and special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
