Barry Norvell
Martin
August 25, 1963 – March 9, 2026
On Monday, March 9, 2026, Barry Norvell Martin entered eternal rest at the VCU Medical Center in Richmond, VA. Barry was born August 25, 1963, in South Boston, VA to Jane Bailey-Martin and Norman Randolph Martin.
He grew up in Alexandria, VA, but he was a country boy at heart and spent most of his adult life on the family farm in the Clays Mill community of Halifax County. He was last employed by Newcomb Plumbing & Electric and assisted in his cousin's landscaping business.
Barry was such a character who is best described as a "loveable nuisance". He loved to chat and joke, but he would only give you a few minutes before he had to go! He had a great sense of humor and a real talent for insulting you and keeping you laughing at the same time! Barry was a "jack of all trades, master of none". He loved gardening. He was a good cook who knew how to make the perfect cup of coffee. He loved children and animals. All the children in the family loved spending time with Barry. He had a nurturing soul and stepped up many times when a caregiver was needed in the family. He was a homebody who loved nothing more than relaxing at home while watching TV. Barry's greatest gift was expressing love and caring for others.
Barry is survived by his parents, Jane Bailey-Martin of Halifax, VA and Randy Martin of Alexandria, VA; devoted aunts: Kathy Bailey-Sumlin, Sherry Bailey, Amy Bailey-Chandler, Delores Miller (Rev Anthony Miller), and Gladys Massenburg along with a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by other loving relatives including his younger brother, Norman "Marty" Martin, and his dearest cousins Derek Bailey and Roderick McCargo; his maternal grandparents: Kathleen and Wille "Butch" Bailey; and his paternal grandparents: Martha Watson and Cedric Martin.
