Ms. Carthelea (Tee) Maxine Hayes, age 79, of Brooklyn, New York, died on December 13, 2022 at SUNY Downstate Hospital Hospital in Brooklyn. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Mack Hayes and Mrs. Maggie Elizabeth Madison Hayes.
She joined Nazareth Baptist Church, Phenix, VA at an early age. She graduated in the Class of 1961 Charlotte High, Charlotte Court House, VA. She moved to New York and obtained a job with New York Telephone/ Verizon Company and worked there for 34 years before retiring. Upon arriving in NY, she joined Berean Baptist Church and was a faithful member until her death.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Mack Alfred Hayes, Carlton Hayes, and Lawrence Hayes; two sisters, Cardelia (Dee) Hayes, her twin sister, and Jeanette Gaines.
Those to cherish her memory are her two children; Cynthia Hayes, South Boston, VA, and William (Billy) Hayes of Brooklyn, NY; two grandchildren, Shelby Russell, South Boston, VA and Nicholas Russell, Pearisburg, VA; two sisters, Virginia Ford, Brooklyn, NY, and Shirley Lovelace, Phenix, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who loved her dearly.
She didn't want to be a bother to anyone. She wanted to be able to do the things she used to do but her sudden illness robbed her of that. She fought until she could fight no longer and went on home to be with the Lord where she was no longer in any pain. Tee and her brother-in-law used to watch the baseball game on TV and would just sit and holler while rooting for their team, the New York Mets.
A special thanks to the staff (Dr. Wungki Parks, MD, and Nurse Molly), in New York for lovingly caring for Tee for the past couple of months.
