Obituary

Della Patrick Lovelace, age 92 of Gladys, passed away on January 6, 2024 in Washington, DC. She was the daughter of the late Preston Cecil Patrick and Mattie Hubbard Patrick.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, James R. Morgan Sr. and Johnnie Lovelace; a son, James R. Morgan Jr. (Pete); a stepson, Johnnie William Lovelace; a son-in-law, Paul Johnson; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Hudson and Ellen Abney and seven brothers, Lindsay Emerson Patrick, Joseph Harden Patrick, Herbert Hoover Patrick, Calvin Byrd Patrick, Abron Franklin Patrick, Preston Cecil Patrick Jr., Cecil Clifton Patrick.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Joyce Johnson of Washington, DC and four loving sons, Milton Morgan (Janice) of Frederick, MD, Donnie Morgan (Mary) of Lynchburg, VA, Randy Lovelace of Gladys, VA, and Rodney Morgan of Canton, OH; three stepdaughters, Barbara Jackson, Sandra "Faye" Pugh (Kent) and Kathy Jukes (Anthony); two sisters, Nancy Virginia Scott of Lynchburg, VA and Eva Eloise Patrick of Harrisburg, PA; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Morgan of Brookneal, Virginia; a niece that she adored as her own, Patricia Patrick of Gladys, Virginia; three sisters-in-law, Patty Patrick, Carolyn Patrick, and Sadie Lovelace; ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren. Furthermore, Della believed that family isn't always about being related by blood, but rather about being the people in her life that wanted her in theirs. Therefore, she held a very dear and special place in her heart for her god daughter Patricia Boyd, her god-granddaughter Carla Pannell (David), and god-grandson, Marcel Boyd; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
