Mrs. Dorothy Mae Payne, age 77 of Gladys, departed this life on March 13, 2020 in Altavista. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Alonza and Rosa Clark Payne.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Payne; sisters, Betty Gaston, Willie Randolph; brother, William Payne.

She is survived by her daughters, Alfreda Martin (James) of the residence, Rita Miller of Richmond; one son, Chuck Payne (Everlene) of Long Island; one step-daughter, Alice Jennings (Raymond) of Nathalie; two sisters, Susie Martin of Gladys and Lillie Gatlin of Alexandria; three brothers, Jessie Payne (Ella) of Lynchburg, Calvin Payne (Glenwood) of Rustburg and Herman Payne (Ernestine) of Altavista; one sister-in-law, Rebecca Payne of Rustburg; seven grandchildren, Nichole Dunn (Kevin), Tony Miller, Shavonne Pannell, Brandon Payne, Olivia Martin, Desmond Payne, and Trey Payne; ten great grandchildren; Aaliyah, K.J., Isaiah, Saryah, Kennly, Winter, Nyla, D. J., Brielle, and TaMarcus; her longtime friends, Evelyn Jackson and Elnora Williams;  and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and church family.

**Due to the mandates from Governor Ralph Northam and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control, services for Mrs. Dorothy Mae Payne will be private.
