Obituary

As a beautiful rainbow quietly swept the skyline and began its ascension on the afternoon of December 2, 2024, our father, brother, uncle, and friend, fifty-two-year-old Elmo Steven Dews, lost his battle of life at his residence in Phoenix, Arizona. In Lynchburg, Virginia, his birthplace, the robin red breasts chirped and sang in celebration. He had begun his celestial rest to behold the beauty of the eternal and to reside in God's temple. His earthly journey had ended, and a new spiritual life had begun.

The progeny of the abiding nuptials between the late Elmo and Gertrude Mae Berkley Dews, Elmo Steven Dews, was born on March 19, 1972, in Lynchburg, Virginia. During his early formative years, he attended the public schools of Charlotte County and graduated from Randolph-Henry High School. He accepted the love of Christ at an early age and joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Red House, VA.

In addition to his parents, Steven was preceded in death by a brother, Michael A. Dews.

Yet in a worldly sense we mourn him, one son, Steven A. Dews of Brookneal, VA; five brothers, Al Dews of Appomattox, VA, David Dews of Phenix, VA, Ricky Dews of Charlotte Court House, VA, Rodney Dews of Lynchburg, VA, and William (Gregory) Dews of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Tammy and Pamela Dews of Appomattox, VA; seven nieces, Monica Turner of Ft. Washington, MD, Felicia Dews of Upper Marlboro, MD, LaKeshia Haskins of Appomattox, VA, Simone and Kaneesha Dews of Appomattox, VA, Chelsea Dews of Lynchburg, VA and Dominique Dews of Phenix, VA; one nephew, David Dews, Jr. of Hampton, VA; two aunts, Ruth Ann Haskins of Hampton, VA and Ella Megginson of Appomattox, VA; one uncle, Ryland Davis of Appomattox, VA; three sisters-in-law, Edna Dews of Appomattox, VA, Veronica (Denise) Dews of Phenix, VA and Vernelle Dews of Charlotte Court House, VA; two grand-nephews; five grand-nieces; and a host of extended family and friends; a special friend, Tracey Rankins of Phoenix, AZ and best friend, Michael Dennis of Lynchburg, VA.
