Mrs. Emily Thompson Hamlette, age 64 of Brookneal, passed away on April 9, 2021. She was born on June 20, 1956 to the late Deacon James Thompson and Fannie Turner Thompson. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Alease and Karen.

Her childhood was spent in Glasgow, Virginia where she accepted Christ and joined Union Baptist Church and later Hat Creek Baptist Church of Brookneal. She graduated from Natural Bridge High School, Virginia State University, and the University of Virginia.

Her love for children and education led her to touch the lives of many students and coworkers in Lexington, Appomattox, and Campbell Counties for over 30 years. She retired from Campbell County Public Schools as Director of Assessment in 2011.

Left to cherish fond memories are her devoted husband, Ronald Hamlette and devoted goddaughter, Curterria Miller of the home; "her girls" as she affectionately called them, Jasmine of Lynchburg and Crystal (Chester) of Ohio; five beloved grandchildren; three brothers, James (Loretta Kay) of Roanoke, Meshach (Connie) of Glasgow, and Adrian (Carolyn) of Staunton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rev. Donald Hamlette (Lisa) of Madison Heights, Carol of Lynchburg, Jesse (Lucy), Shelby (Bernard) of Brookneal, and Joann of Phenix; Uncle Franklin (Dorothy), Uncle Lewis (Judy), Aunt Sally of Washington, D.C., and Aunt Ann of Brookneal; a host of family "across the mountain" nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives, and friends.
