Mr. Gerald Barrington Sparrow, age 78 of Rustburg, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at his residence.  He was the son of the late Mrs. Willie Kate Sparrow Payne and stepfather, Mr. John T. Payne.  He was the husband of Vera Walker Sparrow.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Eric Barrington Sparrow: sister, Ethel P. Sparrow; brother, Winfred Payne; mother and father-in-law, David L. and Westover Walker; grandfather and grandmother, Ivanhoe and Vera Sparrow; best friends, John J. Mickles, Ray Hubbard and Dennis Megginson.

He is survived by his wife and caregiver of fifty-seven years, Vera Walker Sparrow; one grandson, Isaiah B. Sparrow; his daughter-in-law, Natalie; brothers, Julius Sparrow (Carolyn) of South Carolina, Melvin Sparrow of Lynchburg, Virginia, and John Payne of Gaithersburg, MD; sister, Wanda "Bertie" Bowman of Evington, VA; devoted brothers-in-law, Clarence Walker (Margaret) of Rustburg, Virginia and David Walker (Margaret) of Brookneal, Virginia; sisters-in-law, Cynthia Walker of Temple Hills, MD. Armetta Johnson (Rev. Charles) of White Plains, MD, and Elna Payne of Lynchburg, Virginia; nieces, Angela Yolanda, Raven, Kanika, all of NC; and a host of aunts, cousins, and friends.
