Obituary

Grover Cleveland "Cleve" Faulkner, 96, of Richmond Virginia passed away February 6, 2023.

Cleve was born on January 12, 1927 in Lunenburg County, VA to Grover Cleveland Sr. and Hellen G. Faulkner.

He graduated from Robert Russa Morton High School and then went to serve in the United States Armed Forces. After his service in the military, he kicked off his career as a hairstylist, working many years in Norwalk, Connecticut and White Plains, NY. The next stop on his journey was a career in Behavioral Health. He retired from Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, NY where he worked as a Patient Activity Coordinator in the psychiatric department.

Cleve loved music. He began singing and playing music at an early age, even playing in bands for social events as a teen. His love of music continued throughout his life. He was a founding member of the singing group, The Northern Star Quartet, played in several church choirs throughout his life and wouldn't go a day without playing a few songs on his guitar. If he found himself with a song in his head and no instrument in sight, he'd often create his own wondrous symphony with just a vibrating hum and a pat of his foot.

Cleve accepted Christ early in life. He enjoyed visiting and worshipping at a variety of churches while remaining dedicated to his home church New Hope Baptist Church, where he was Deacon. He loved spreading the word of God and when he saw a need, started a bible study group for shut-ins unable to attend regular service.

Cleve had a smile so big and bright it could light up a room and an infectious laugh that would warm your heart. He will be greatly missed.

Cleve leaves to cherish his memory and rejoice in his victory, his son, Kennie Faulkner; daughter, Marilyn Bowman; stepdaughters, Clarissa Vaughan (Dennis), Donna Cook, Nancy Cook and Diana Cook; granddaughter, Ayanna Faulkner; step grandchildren, Taylor Reed (Karina), Atwon Cook, Jonathon Cook and Latoria Vaughan; a host of step great-grandchildren; sister, Meredith Edmonds; sister in law, Ruth Wilson; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents; wives Carrie and Nannie; siblings Beatrice Faulkner-Molock, Pearline Bonner, Ila Martin, Lillian Hazelwood, Herbert P. Faulkner, Rodessa Faulkner, and Charles "Mel" Faulkner.
