Bishop James Lewis Dennis, age 70 of Hurt, passed away on December 28, 2016 in Lynchburg. He was the son of Mrs. Lucy Glass Dennis and the late Mr. Brown Douglas Dennis.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Dennis of the home; his children and stepchildren, Rosa Miller of Los Angeles, CA, Vicky Dennis of Roanoke Rapid, NC, Kimberly Brewer (Allen) Virginia Beach, VA, Valerie Adams Gaineville, VA, Sherry Lykes (Bishop Carl) of Statesville, NC, Pamela Hayes of Charleston, SC, Sarah Dennis of Atlanta, GA, James Dennis, Jr. (Leatsha) of Rockville, SC, Vernon Sherron Coles of Jarrett, VA, and Timothy Lee Coles of Dillwyn, VA; his mother, Mrs. Lucy Dennis; two brothers, Brown Douglas Dennis, Jr. (Rebecca) and Daniel Dennis, and one sister, Margaret Dennis, all of Hurt, VA.
