Mr. James Dews, age 66 of Appomattox, passed away on March 22, 2023 in Charlottesville. He was the son of the late Sterling Dews and Marie Wiley Dews.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of twenty-seven years, Evelyn Dews of the home; daughter, LaKercia McCargo (Jawon) of Phenix, VA; stepson, Stanley Hamlett, Jr. of Roanoke, VA; grandson, Kahlil McCargo of Phenix, VA; three sisters, Mamie Dews (Murphy) and Linda Patrick of Phenix, and Corrine Dews of Appomattox, VA; mother-in-law, Deaconess Shirley Thornton; brother-in-law, Edward Thornton, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Debra Thornton and Margie Thornton of Red House, VA; three nieces, Centralia Franklin (Chuck, Jr,) of Appomattox, VA, Latrice Durrette of Lynchburg, VA, and LaToya Dews of Phenix, VA; one nephew, Dennis Patrick (Amanda) of Appomattox, VA; four aunts, Elizabeth Wiley of Phenix, VA, Louise Robuck of Lynchburg, Lillie Wiley and Bernice Dews of Appomattox, VA; devoted cousin, Piperlynn Cheatham of Concord, VA; devoted friends, Bryant Womack of Darlington Heights, VA and Raymond Riley of Lynchburg, VA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
