James Edward Smith, age 71 of Brookneal, passed away on May 28, 2024 in Lynchburg. He was the son of the late Chancie Edward Smith and Nellie Brightwell Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Parsons Smith; brothers, David Smith and Herbert Smith; and sister, Janie Smith.

He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Kay Smith and Jennette Brake, both of Nathalie; five grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Blake Rolfe of Nathalie, Jillian Phelps of  Nathalie and Brandon and Natalie Johnson of Nathalie; sister, Mildred Woodson (Jerry) of Nathalie; brother, Jerry Smith of  (Audrey) of Concord; nieces, Rebecca and Rosa Smith; nephews, James, Jason and Coty Johnson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
