Jesse Watts Sublett, a beloved family member and friend, departed this life unexpectantly and entered heaven on July 13, 2026, at the age of 64. Born on May 29, 1962, Jesse was the youngest child of the late Charles Sublett, Jr. and Lois Watts Sublett. He was preceded in death not only by his parents, but also by his niece Shauna Saunders, great-nephew Ashton Saunders, and sister-in-law Virginia Sublett.
Jesse was born and lived his entire life in Charlotte County. He grew up surrounded by much family love and laughter. He farmed with family in his younger years, ran Bethel Store, and worked for Kyanite Mining. Jesse enjoyed hunting and hanging out with his friends. He also loved his dogs, Betty and Charlie.
Jesse is survived by his sisters Sondra Garnett (Jimmy) and Dianne Tuck (Walter), and brother Spurgeon Sublett. Jesse is also survived by his stepchildren Matthew Laubach (Jessica), Jerry Laubach, and Tammy Canada (Robbie), and a special friend, Laurie Foster. The next generations of family members include nephews Philip, Nathaniel, and Charles Garnett, Jared Tuck, and niece Stacey Montgomery, as well as seventeen great-nephews and nieces and one great-great-niece. His many cousins, aunts, and uncles both living and deceased were also a huge part of Jesse’s life.
A celebration of Jesse's life will be held on July 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Midway Baptist Church, located at 2595 Midway Rd., Phenix, VA 23959. The family will have visitation on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home in Brookneal, VA. Family and friends are invited to gather and share in the remembrance of Jesse's life.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jesse's memory to Midway Baptist Church Building Fund or a charity of your choice.
Jesse Watts Sublett will be deeply missed, but the love and memories shared will remain in our hearts forever.
