John Henry
Adams
February 21, 1939 – August 12, 2022
Deacon John H. Adams, age 83 of Gladys, VA entered eternal rest on August 12, 2022 in Lynchburg, VA. He was born on February 21, 1939 in Halifax County, VA. He was the son of the late Jerry and Mattie Adams.
John attended the public schools of Campbell County, VA. As a child he loved art and loved to draw pictures of nature and scenes from comic books like the Lone Ranger.
Around nine years old, John was severely burned while making a fire in the bedroom heater. This resulted in him being hospitalized for almost a year. The hospital bill was extremely high, such that the indebtedness by the family was eventually forgiven by the hospital. The doctors didn't think he would make it, but our omnipotent, merciful God was on the throne making interventions for His child.
John was a certified carpenter through the state of Virginia and a dedicated custodian through the Bellmore Public School system in NY. John loved his family and his laughter would light up a room. He was a self-taught musician playing the organ and harmonica. He was also gifted with the voice of an angel. His favorite songs were "I'm Not Tired Yet", "Doors to the Church are Open" and "Jesus Cares". John loved God and he studied his Bible passionately on a regular basis. He was a faithful Deacon and choir member of First Buffalo Baptist Church.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Marie (Martin) Adams of 49 years; his four children, Co-Pastor Teneeshia Boots (Daimon) of Charlotte, NC, John Jr. (Tanya) and Jerona Samuels (Brandon) of Richmond, VA, and Jeremy (Tiara) of Greensboro, NC; eleven grandchildren; one great granddaughter; two brothers, Alphonso Bateman (Ann) of Forest, VA and Harry Bateman (Sarah) of Lynchburg, VA; five sisters, Geneva Jones (Gerald) and Naomi Jones (Ray), both of Gladys, VA, Beatrice Cox (Robert) of Charlotte, NC, Mary Dalton and Bonnie Adams of Lynchburg; five sisters-in-law, Luddie Adams of Gladys, VA, Betty Adams of Lawrenceville, GA, Almanette Martin of Concord, NC, Robin Best (Melvin) and Sharlene Sutton both of Richmond, VA; devoted friends Henry and Therussell Horne of Pamplin, VA; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
