John Eldridge Childress, age 82 of Brookneal, passed away on May 25, 2026 at the home of his sister, Sadie and Billy Jennings of Amherst, Virginia. He was the son of the late Archer Dell Childress and Eulula Clay Childress.

He is survived by his sisters, Bessie Pollard, Birdie and Paul Miller, Katie Harlow, Jean and Raleigh Carr, Sadie and Billy Jennings, Judy Shaw, and Rita Jackson; and special family friend, Alice Bryant; a host of numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
