John "Michael" Shotwell, age 54, known to all as "Shotbone", passed away at Lynchburg General Hospital on the morning of March 20, 2026. Michael was born on January 15, 1972 in Halifax County, Virginia.

A man who found great joy in the companionship of animals, he leaves behind his two beloved dogs, Sandy and Scruffy, who were his constant best friends and loyal companions.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Sue Shotwell.

Michael is survived by his brother, Jeff Shotwell (Josie); special niece and nephew, Morgan Shotwell Wade (Gaige) and Gage Shotwell (Kaitlyn); several great nieces and great nephews; special sister-in-law, Karen Jackson Shotwell; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held on March 28, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Wickliffe Cemetery in Brookneal with Pastor Matt Killmon officiating.
