Mrs. Mamie Ship  Thaxton, age 93 of Nathalie, passed away on December 27, ,2023 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Robert Ship and Marie Byrd Ship.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Cullen Thaxton; brothers, Charlie Ship, Howard Ship, Robert Ship, Frank Ship and William Ship; sister, Geneva Hubbard; and grandson, Savatche Thaxton.

She is survived by eight children, William Thaxton, James Thaxton, Jessie Thaxton, Ethel Adams, Sandra Smith, all of Nathalie, John Thaxton of Danville, Miranda Thaxton of Halifax and Hallie Thaxton of Concord; nineteen grandchildren; fifty great-great grandchildren; and thirteen great-great great grandchildren; sister, Carrie Ross of Newark, New Jersey; brother, James Ship of Portsmouth, Ohio; good friend, Katherine Jones; devoted cousin, Roosevelt Barksdale; and a host of other relatives and friends.
