Obituary

Mrs. Margaret Estelle Gilliam passed away on July 16, 2020. "Duck", as we all called her, was born in Charlotte County, Virginia, on July 15, 1945 and was the daughter of the late Edward and Annie Elam.  She was 75 years old at the time of her passing.

Margaret attended the public schools in Charlotte County, Virginia.  At an early age she accepted Christ and joined Spring Hill Baptist Church in Brookneal, Virginia.  Margaret remained a faithful member until her passing.  She gave her all to Christ.

Margaret had a love of people, especially her family.  She had a kind, giving spirit and loved everyone.  She was always willing to lend an ear and a helping hand when needed.  She loved spending time with her lifelong partner, Mr. Cal Lee, especially Sunday rides.  Margaret was employed in the garment industry with Bassett Walker for over ten years.  She enjoyed gardening, playing bingo and working her puzzle books.  Family gatherings whether at home or on vacation were special to her.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Annie Elam, four sisters, Althea Flippen, Dorothy Johnson, Mattie Elam, and Emma Jean Morris.

Margaret married the love of her life, Mr. Cal Lee Gilliam, on November 2, 1963 and to this union, they were blessed with five sons,  Deacon Darryl Lee Gilliam, Major (USA Retired) (Dalia) of Madison, Al, Harold Anthony Gilliam (LaVern) of Richmond, Michael Gilliam (Josephine) of Brookneal, Dale Gilliam (Adair) of Charlottesville, and Donald Gilliam (Barbara) of Manassas; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two siblings, Edward Elam (Deborah) of Easton, PA and Delois Asher of Brookneal; three best friends, Bernice Davis, Ruby Callaham, and Brenda Little; a special friend of the family, Rochelle Crews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
