Margaret (Clara) Jones Sowell, 89 of Brookneal, VA, passed away October 11, 2023 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home.  Clara was born April 18, 1934, the only daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth Lipscomb Jones of Charlotte County, VA.

A graduate of Randolph Henry High School and a member of Brookneal United Methodist Church. She retired from General Electric after 28 years of service.

She was the widow of the late Kenneth Sowell and predeceased by four brothers: Frank, Kermit, Marion and Bobby Jones.

Clara is survived by daughter, Janet Blanks (Bruce) of Brookneal and son Devin Sowell (Susan) of Madison Heights, VA.; granddaughters and their families; Sarah Lynch (Sean), Lennon, Cailin, and Kieran of Brookfield, CT, and Amanda Holbrooks (Tyler), Weston and Briggs of Brookneal, VA; grandsons and their families, Jarrod Sowell (Ashley), Carter, Camden and Aubree, Aaron Sowell (Miranda), and Ruby and Afton, all of Madison Heights, VA; and a true one-of-a-kind friend, neighbor and caregiver, who she loved dearly, Laverne Canada of Brookneal, VA.

Clara was a wonderful caring daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She was an accomplished seamstress and lover of all animals. Throughout the years, she enjoyed spending time with family, shopping (QVC Queen), auctions, yard sales, reading, fishing and preparing many desserts for her church and work families.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Heritage Hall for the love and attention given to Mom.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home in Brookneal with visitation one hour prior to service and at other times at the home of Janet Blanks, Brookneal or Devin Sowell, Madison Heights, VA.
