Mrs. Mary Lee Elliott, age 80 of Brookneal, entered into eternal rest on July 30, 2021, at her residence.  She was the daughter of the late Mr. Alfred Thornton, Sr. and Mrs. Dorothy Hancock Thornton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Mr. James Edward Elliott, Sr.; her son, James Elliott, Jr; brothers, Aubrey Thornton and Alfred Thornton, Jr.

She is survived by four daughters, Erika Carter, Belinda Gregory (Kenneth), both of Appomattox, Kim Elliott of Brookneal, Hester 'Plick' Elliott of Fleming Island, FL; six grandchildren, Marcus Elliott (Stephanie), who they raised as their own, Donnell Elliott (Paula), Kenisha Gregory (Shane), Tori Silac (John), Keith Gregory, Jessica Anderson (Jermaine); nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Arlene Jones (William), Ruby Fleshman and Jackie Smith; two brothers, Thomas Thornton (Linda) and Bobby Thornton; two sisters-in-law, Alice Thornton and Annie Thornton; and a host of other relatives and friends.
