Mary Bell Pannell, age 88 of Altavista, passed away on August 5, 2025 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Archie Turner Johnson and Mary Smith Johnson Cabler.

In addition to her parents, Bell was predeceased by siblings, Eldridge, Aaron and Johnny Johnson, Delois Coles and Aileen Miller.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Brenda (Major) Gilbert, Sharon Monroe, Annette Paynter, Charles (Patricia) Pannell, Wanda (Dennis) Peerman, Jarrod (Cynthia) Pannell; her sister, Stella (Walter) Myers; twenty-four grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; fourteen great-great grandchildren; a special friend, Mary Hensley; a devoted caregiver, Rosa Cunningham; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
