Ricky Owen Short, age 62, passed away at Sova Hospital in Danville, Virginia on December 13, 2023.  He was born on July 23, 1961 to Bennett Owen Short and Rebecca Dalton Short.

He was a member of the former Maranatha Baptist Church.

Ricky went to work at Thomasville Furniture of Brookneal right out of high school and  also attended trade school in Fishersville, Virginia.   He was noted for being a hard worker and having one of the highest attendance records while he was there.  He later worked at Abbott Laboratories for nine years.

He was an avid fan of wrestling.  He was an encyclopedia on anything dealing with wrestling.  Ricky enjoyed going to local matches with friends.

He is survived by an aunt and uncle, J. W. and Phyllis Dalton of Brookneal and several cousins, including devoted caregivers, Jack and Faye Short.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at 2:00 p. m. at Jeffress Funeral Home Chapel in Brookneal with Rev. Zak Ford officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Halifax Volunteer Fire Department.
