Obituary

Rogers Lee Rice, of Nathalie, Virginia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday, August 3, 2026 at Sentara Hospital, South Boston, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 80 years old. He was the son of the late Thomas Rice and Maria Carr Rice.

Born on November 9, 1945 in Halifax County, Rogers was a devoted partner, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose life was defined by faith, service, integrity, and unwavering love for his family and community.

Rogers proudly served his country in the United States military in Korea during the Vietnam War before dedicating 23 years to a career in law enforcement with the Brookneal Police Department.

Rogers was preceded in death by his father and mother, Thomas and Moriah; stepmother, Marie; brothers, Rufus and Earl; stepbrothers, Bobby and Ruben; children, Donald Wayne and Robin Marie.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved, Rosa (together for 54 years); his sons, Robert Rice (Lisette) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Rodney Barley; his grandchildren, DeAndria, Chamia, Donald Wayne III, Tyreek, Dondriq, Lena, Ryann, and Sharonda; three great grandchildren; his siblings, Jerolean (Eddie), Brenda, Sandra (Johnnie), and Dorothy (Franklin); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, dear friends, fellow veterans, and former law enforcement colleagues.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone during this time of loss. Rogers’ legacy of service, faith, courage, and unconditional love will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
