Obituary

Saint Jennie E. Watkins Scott was born on March 3, 1939 in Alexandria, Virginia to Benjamin David Watkins and Florence Bell Pollard-Watkins. She is the granddaughter of the late Evangelist-At-Large Benjamin Harrison Watkins and Grand Trustee, Saint Carrie Smith-Watkins. As a child, she and her siblings spent time with their grandparents during the Summer in Providence, Rhode Island and attended church there. She graduated from Parker-Gray High School in 1958. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and the Church of God and Saints of Christ-16th Tabernacle Beth-El, Alexandria, Virginia.

She married the late Marshall Zane Scott of Nathalie, Virginia (Halifax County) in 1963 and had two children; Dawud Abdul-Aziz Sadeq- AKA- David Harrison Scott and Roxanne Michele Scott. She has a Legacy of a Godly and Wonderful Mother! She taught her children to love God: "Her children arise up," a form of thanking God for their mother for what she instilled in them. A mother who loves God and teaches her children to love and serve Him leaves a legacy that lasts generations.

Saint Jennie worked for the Alexandria Police Department as a Crossing Guard and later as the first black Parking Enforcement Officer in the City. She was known as "Quick Draw" as she wrote many parking tickets as soon as the meter expired! She loved people, and when she retired, she worked jobs serving the public as a courtesy driver for Enterprise Rental Car and the Virginia Department of Transportation as a Toll Booth Operator and the U.S. Post Office as a seasonal worker.

In 2016, St. Jennie suffered a stroke and went on to live with her daughter Roxanne who cared for her in Maryland. A special thanks to her niece, Gail Butler who cared for her for many years while her daughter was at work.

She enjoyed dialing in to hear Sabbath school and the church service on Sabbath Day. St. Dana Davis sent her the dial in information every Sabbath day morning. St. Jennie filled her days, working on her word find puzzle books, talking on the telephone and watching Steve Harvey on Family Feud. Her nickname that her daughter lovingly gave her was Snicka Boo or Snick.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Zane Scott, her granddaughter, Jennah Harisa Sadeq; siblings, Octavia Venter, Mary Butler, William Josiah Watkins, Brenda Strickland, Benjamin Watkins, Exzell Watkins and David Watkins; her aunts, Lena Pollard Watkins and Katie Walls, and her uncles, Rev. Joseph Watkins, John Watkins and John Pollard, and aunts, Ruby Sheila Williams, Jane Pollard, Rachel Pollard and cousin, Mary Walls-Williams.

She leaves to mourn her children: Dawud Abdul-Aziz Sadeq and Roxanne M. Scott. Grandchildren: Lynique Nicole Nesbitt, David H. Scott, II, Bianca Bass Brown, Monique Renee Scott, Nathaniel L. Nelson-Scott, Khalil Jasur Abdul-Aziz, Hediyah  Sadeq, Asiya Sadeq, Mariam Sadeq, Zakira Sadeq and Jennah Sadeq (preceded in death). Great-Grandchildren: Kya Nesbitt, Kasen Nesbitt, Shakur Scott, Amari Scott, Zakel Scott, Zakariya Wildman, Michael Brown, Jahlil Brown, Londyn Brown;  her sister Francis Linda Epps; her sisters-in-law, Verona Norfleet and Thalier Nash; daughter-in-law, Stacey Sadeq; uncle, Albert "Mickey" Pollard; and cousin Jerry Walls; and a host of nieces, nephews and family friends.

Our mother taught us everything except how to live without her.
