Obituary

Samuel Harvey Robinson, affectionately known as "Bill," was born on January 27, 1942, in Appomattox, Virginia, to Mary E. Robinson and Willie C. Robinson. He peacefully departed this life on July 19, 2024.

Bill spent his formative years in Appomattox, surrounded by a large and loving family. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Hallie M. Wheeler, Willie H. Robinson, Anniebell Williams, Geraldine Robinson, Joe Louis Robinson, Charlie L. Robinson, and is survived by his siblings, Minnie J. Haskins, Rylan L. Robinson, Larry C. Robinson, Sara J. Robinson, Ronnie L. Robinson, Ennoch Robinson, and Annette Baker.

He attended Carver Price High School in Appomattox before relocating to Hempstead, New York, where he married Mary Lee Hilburn. Together, they welcomed their daughter Renee Ann Robinson. Bill also embraced Deborah Prescod as his own daughter from this union. Known for his strong work ethic and versatility, Bill was a skilled provider in various trades.

In 1985, Bill met Velma Jean Johnson, and they returned to Appomattox, Virginia, the following year. They married in 1991, and Bill welcomed Velma's children, Melvyn Johnson, Yolanda Johnson, and Stanley Johnson, into his life as his own.  Bill cherished his role as a grandfather, fondly known as "Papi" to his grandchildren: Chenay Taylor, Chanaya Johnson, Tiasa Johnson, Asiatic Allah, Aubren Johnson, Inayah Johnson, Melvyn Johnson Jr., and Maliyah Johnson. He also adored his great-grandchildren: Chelsie Lee Jean, Jayden Reeder, Anthony Dangerfield Jr., D'Vir Dangerfield, Anisty Bllue, Laila Green, and Aubrey Johnson.

For many years, Bill was a dedicated employee of the Appomattox County School District, where he was respected and cherished by his colleagues.

He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love, and a multitude of cherished memories with family, friends, and coworkers. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
