Mrs. Shirley Juanita Poindexter, age 71 of Gretna, was called from this life into a peaceful eternal rest on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at her residence.  She was born in Pittsylvania County on March 11, 1950 to the late Robert Miller and Isabell Hamm Miller.

Shirley was employed by the Lane Company in Altavista; and later by Dollar General and Good Will Industries, both located in South Boston.

She is survived by two daughters, Doris H. Monroe (Osbain, Jr.) and Wendy N. Sparrow (Jr. Witcher); grandson, D"Anthony Poindexter (who she raised like a son); five grandchildren, Jessica Harris, Jeremy Monroe, Dominique Poindexter, Delena and Denita Childress; nine great-grandchildren, Ja'myah N. Harris, Kataleya Davis, Ariana Hairston, Zuri Wesselroade, Nakoa Wesselroade, Ja'nova Childress, Ja"Marion Childress and Da"Marcus Brooks; one brother, Richard Miller; two sisters-in-law, Emma Miller and Delma Miller; five nephews, Cameron and Tristan Miller, Robert Lewis Miller, Jr., Curtis Miller, Jr. and Terry Palmer; one niece, Janet Miller;  special friends, Wendy Waller, Oral "Boo-Jack" Graves and Dorothy "Dottie" Monroe, and a host of other relatives and friends.
