Shirley Poteat, age 86 of Indian Trail, North Carolina, formerly of Roanoke, passed away on March 26, 2024 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Willie James Poteat and Ethel Queen White Poteat.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Jenkins; and two brothers, Robert Poteat and Willie Poteat.

She is survived by her children, Rickey Jenkins of Baltimore, MD, Danny Jenkins (Nellie) of Cullen, Pattie Jenkins of Chase City and Shentel Gaines of Gastonia, North Carolina; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; sister, Mary Scott of Richmond, Virginia; brothers, Richard Poteat (Yvette) of New York, and Benjamin Poteat of Alexandria; and a host of other relatives and friends.
