Mrs. Susie Adelle Payne Cox, age 99 of Gladys, passed away on December 19, 2023 in Lynchburg. She was the daughter of the late Harry B. Payne and Ruth Constance Anthony Payne.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cleo Cox; her sisters, Anna Payne Monroe, Myrtle Payne Cox and Mary Ethel Payne.

She is survived by her only daughter, Helen Mae Payne Sherman (Joe); three granddaughters, Roslyn "Ra Ra" Sherman, Tenise "Jo Jo" Sherman and Chanda "Squeaky" Portis; eight great grandchildren, Constance, Ursula, Monique, Jordan, Epiphany, Savon, Sadiq and Samyra; three great, great grandchildren, Jeremiah, A'Jiya Tenise and Robert Jiyon; one niece, Shirley Monroe Willis; and a host of relatives near and far.
