Mrs. Lavalett Selena Smith-Pannell, age 62, of Brookneal, died on July 30, 2017, in Richmond. She was the daughter of Mrs. Rosa A. Elam Smith and the late Mr. Alfonzo Smith and the wife of Earnest Pannell, Jr.

She is survived by her husband Earnest Pannell, Jr.; her mother, Rosa Elam-Smith Pannell; three children, Sharon Smith, Danny Smith and Tracey Smith of NJ; nine grandchildren, Al-Salaam Hicks-Smith, Omar Jones, Danny, Danielle, Daquan, Davion, Dillon, Imanni and Ashanti Smith; one great-grandchild, Az'Zahra Bint-Salaam Smith; one sister, Dana Smith; two brothers, Keith and Hugh Smith; and a host of relatives and friends.

Public viewing will begin on Friday, August 11, 2017, at Jeffress Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Brookneal from 12 until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at the Chapel of the Jeffress Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Brookneal with interment in the Aspen Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Brookneal.
