Evangelist Lorena Holmes Jackson was born in Campbell County, Virginia on April 25, 1921. She was the only child of Mattlon Blankenship and Henderson Cabell. She departed this life on Tuesday morning, May 25, 2010 at her home in Charlotte Court House, Virginia. She attended public school for only a short time, but continued to educate herself in reading, writing, and arithmetic where she excelled. At the age of 10, she became a member of Nazareth Baptist Church. As she grew so did her passion for the Word of God, which later led her to become an evangelist. Not only did she preach the Word of God, but she lived it and encouraged others to do the same. On January 20, 1940, Lorena and Loran Jackson were united in Holy Matrimony, to this union were born four daughters. Along side her husband and children, she worked raising a farm as well as worked in a factory before moving to Jamaica, New York in 1960, where she did domestic care work before returning to Charlotte County. She continued to devote herself to the care of her invalid daughter until the time of her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loran Jackson; one daughter, Verma Odell Williams; one grandson, Rodney Williams; and one great grandson, Joel Taylor. Lorena leaves to cherish her memory, her three daughters, Frances Robinson (Floyd) of Butner, NC, Elvin Venable of the home and husband, James of Roanoke and Marion Jackson of Jamaica, NY; three grandchildren she and her husband reared as her own, Rita Witcher of Alexandria, Va., Roger Venable of Valley Streams, NY, and a devoted granddaughter, Michelle Venable of the home; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; seven sisters-in-law, Celnora Chase and Cecil McFarland (Robert) of Baltimore, MD, Orister Tuck and Lena Jackson of Roanoke, Va., and Vernell Clark (Robert) of Phenix, Va; one brother-in-law, Percell Jackson (Beverly) of Charlotte Court House, Va.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
